Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Review – I Will Face My Enemy

This weeks episode of AOS, I Will Face My Enemy, dropped Coulson and Agent May in the field together on a secret mission. Their mission, to obtain a painting that has the alien language carved into the back of it. They are under the belief getting this item will help May and Coulson understand what is going on with Coulson.

Coulson and May go undercover to a swanky party where this painting is being featured and is “hidden” in the secret vault down below. This puts May in a very unfamiliar position to the audience. She is dressed to the 9’s while having to pretend to be elegant and happy. If you want to see pure comedy then you need to see Agent May’s fake laugh. Pure gold.

Of course their plan ends up having to go into motion a lot sooner then planned as General Talbot is on location. With the fear of him blowing their cover they go full ahead with the mission. However the painting is already gone and they shortly find out from Skye, Talbot is in possession of it.

It was nice to see Coulson back in the field doing spy stuff. May and him make for a great pairing giving the viewer a highly entertaining hour of television. I wouldn’t be surprised if this episode starts prompting people to campaign for Coulson and May to hit it off even with it seeming like the obvious thing to possibly happen.

I Will Face My Enemy made two characters face some hard truths. Coulson was insistent on forcing a contingency plan onto May in case he went the way of Garrett but May refuses to kill him (Coulson’s plan) if he worsens. Fitz on the other hand still feels inadequate having problems articulating basic thought which I for one continue to feel for him and his situation. Imaginary Simmons pushed him to open up with the team which he finally does after coming up big and saving all their assess.

There was plenty of comedy and action in I Will Face My Enemy, with May’s fight against Agent 33 being awesomely brutal. The new team is really coming together and gelling nicely as they did have some bonding moments during this episode.

With the quality of AOS at a consistent high this season I have no reasons in not looking forward to next weeks episode.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs 9PM EST Tuesday nights on ABC.
