When I first heard of an American version of Oldboy was going to be made I was a bit hesitant to be excited about this. For one I absolutely love the original. It’s in my top 10 movies of all-time list, so you can understand my hesitation with being on board. Then they announced the director and I became even more-so hesitant and not because I don’t like Spike Lee as a director. It more had to do with his body of work that has come before this and it made me feel he was not the right man suited to tackle this production.
Since all these announcements we’ve gotten a cast that seems to give this movie some promise and a first trailer that adds to that notion this movie can be good.
Recently a featurette with Josh Brolin talking about all the physical changes his body went through during this production was released to the public. After watching it I have a bit more faith in the movie. I don’t think I was never not going to see it but I want to try and have as open as a mind as possible when going in. Plus any promotional stuff they release that looks appetizing to the eyes is a plus.
So without further a-do here is the Oldboy featurette: Transformation of Josh Brolin.
Oldboy will release on November 27, 2013. Starring Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, Sharlto, Copley, Michael Imperioli and Lance Reddick. Directed by Spike Lee.
Oldboy is the story of a man obsessed with vengeance, setting out to find why he was kidnapped and locked up into solitary confinement for 20 years without reason.
